In 1947, ROLF HANSEN, in collaboration with Sven Skjæveland and Birgitte Carlsen, established the ceramic workshop Kongsberg Keramikk. At the exhibition Høstmønstringen in 1952 (organized by Foreningen Brukskunst, a national organization for craft artists), the three artists presented works in clay and chamotte that were decorated with white tin glaze and incised décor. In 1955 Kongsberg Keramikk won the gold medal at the international ceramics exhibition Les Chefs-d`oeuvres de la Ceramique Moderne, Cannes. In 1957, Rolf Hansen and his wife Ragna became directors of Kongsberg Keramikk. One year later, Rolf became artistic director of Plus in Fredrikstad (1958-59). He participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad: Triennale di Milano in 1954 and 1960, Formes Scandinaves in 1958/59 and Scandinavian Design Cavalcade in 1963, just to name a few. Fantasy figures and imaginative décor are characteristic for Hansen’s oeuvre. One can often find motifs of cows, roosters and chickens in his works.
