Reverse Of Lincoln Cent Cinderella

The Design Was Minted For Fifty Years'  

The First Was In 1909 

Created By Victor David Brenner

In Honor Of The Hundredth Anniversary,

 Of Abraham Lincoln's Birth,

Lithuanian sculptor, Engraver, and Medalist

 Known Primarily As The Designer 

Of The United States Lincoln Cent.

The President Was One Of Brenner's Personal Heroes

He Had Previously Designed A Bas-Relief Medallion, 

Based Off Matthew Brady's Famed Cooper Union Portrait.

 Then The President, Theodore Roosevelt Was Impressed, 

With The Medal And Convinced Brenner 

To Submit A Similar Design.

For The One Cent Coin to the Mint. 

The First Iteration Of The Design Contained Brenner's Full Name,

But The Director Of The Mint Convinced Him To Merely Use His Initials.

As Seen In The Center, Lower LeftAnd Upper Right.

 The  Reverse Side Had His Initials Below 

 The Two Pieces Of Wheat.

Within Six Months Of The First Year, With Its Circulation,

Many Took Offense To The Prominent Placement 

Of The Artists’ Initials. The Dies Were Changed

 (Despite Precedence Found In Both European And American coinage) 

 Due to protest, circulation of the "VDB" Cent was halted, 

After Approximately 27 Million Were Released.

The Updated Design At First And Featured No Initials,

72,702,618 Were Made.

In 1918, His Intials Returned Under The Shoulder. 

The Coin Was Revised To Include A Much Smaller Set.

 The Updated Design Is Still Produced And Used Today.

Today, Due To Its short-Lived Circulation, 

The Original "VDB" Cent Design 

Issued In Sanfrancisco Only 484,000 In Population.

Is Considered A Key and Sought After By Many Collectors. 

The Indian Cent Was Produced In Philadelphia.

With Only14 million Were Minted 1909, 

And The S Mintmark, Being Sanfrancisco, 

A Little Over 300 Thousand Cent Coins. 

Under Rated, Because The Demand Of First Year Samples, 

Of The Lincoln Cent.

Remember, It Is A Cent Not A Penny.

The Criminal Element And The Unlearned, 

Use The Word...  

The British Stopped Using The Word.
